X-Men: Days of Future Past was released in 2014.
The film combines the casts of the original X-Men trilogy and X-Men: First Class. Its plot sends Wolverine’s consciousness back from a dystopian future to 1973, where he must help the younger Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr prevent an event that leads to the creation of powerful mutant-hunting Sentinels.
Bryan Singer directed the film, which adapts the comic-book storyline of the same name by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. The movie was released between The Wolverine and X-Men: Apocalypse. Its time-travel structure changes elements of the franchise timeline, which is why character histories and events do not always line up perfectly across every X-Men film. The release year is sometimes confused with the story’s two prominent periods, 1973 and the future shown in the movie.
