In which year was Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness released?

The story behind the answer

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness was released in 2003.

The game is the sixth main installment in the original Tomb Raider series and was developed by Core Design. It follows Lara after the events of The Last Revelation and Chronicles, placing her in a darker story involving murder, conspiracy, and the antagonist Werner von Croy. The game was released for PlayStation 2 and Windows.

The Angel of Darkness is notable for introducing changes to the traditional formula, including playable sections involving Kurtis Trent and more emphasis on stealth and character interaction. It was also the final main Tomb Raider game developed by Core Design.

The title is sometimes mistaken for a 2002 release because development lasted several years and the previous main entry, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, was released in 2000. The later 2006 game Tomb Raider: Legend began a new development era under Crystal Dynamics.
