In which year was Shakespeare's First Folio published?

The story behind the answer

In which year was Shakespeare's First Folio published? Shakespeare's First Folio was published in 1623.

Its full title was Mr. William Shakespeare's Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies. The volume was assembled after Shakespeare's death by John Heminges and Henry Condell, fellow actors in the King's Men. They aimed to preserve authoritative texts of plays that had circulated in manuscript, performance, or separate quarto editions.

The First Folio contained 36 plays and was printed in London by a publishing syndicate that included Edward Blount and Isaac Jaggard. It was a substantial and expensive book for its time, requiring large quantities of imported paper and extensive typesetting. The title page was engraved by Martin Droeshout, whose portrait of Shakespeare became one of the most famous images associated with the playwright.

The year is sometimes confused with 1616, the year Shakespeare died, or with dates of individual quarto publications. The First Folio is especially important because it preserved plays such as Macbeth, The Tempest, and Twelfth Night that might otherwise have survived in less reliable or incomplete forms.
