The series finale “Made in America” aired in 2007. It first premiered on HBO in the United States on June 10, 2007, closing The Sopranos after six seasons and 86 episodes.
Written and directed by series creator David Chase, the episode follows Tony Soprano as he tries to end the conflict with the Lupertazzi crime family while protecting his family and associates. Its final restaurant scene became one of television’s most debated endings because the screen suddenly cuts to black without explicitly showing what happens to Tony.
The episode was filmed in New Jersey and New York, including Holsten’s in Bloomfield, New Jersey, where the final scene takes place. “Made in America” was also critically acclaimed: it won the 2007 Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. A common mix-up is confusing its 2007 airdate with the show’s earlier seasons or with the 2021 prequel film The Many Saints of Newark.
