The Philippine fast-food chain Max’s began serving its famous fried chicken in 1945.
Max’s Restaurant was established in Quezon City in 1945 by Maximo Gimenez, his wife, and other family members. The restaurant became known for its fried chicken and developed into one of the Philippines’ best-known restaurant chains.
Its origins place it in the period immediately after World War II, when Manila’s restaurant industry was rebuilding. The business began as a small restaurant rather than as a modern nationwide fast-food corporation.
Max’s is sometimes confused with Jollibee because both are major Philippine food brands associated with fried chicken. Their histories and signature menu branding are separate, however.
