In which year did the London Underground first introduce 24-hour Night Tube services?

The story behind the answer

The London Underground first introduced 24-hour Night Tube services in 2016.

Night Tube began on 19 August 2016 on the Central and Victoria lines. Trains operated through Friday and Saturday nights, giving passengers an overnight rail option at the weekend. The Jubilee, Northern, and Piccadilly lines joined the Night Tube network later in 2016.

The service was introduced to support London's night-time economy and improve travel for people working or socializing late. It also reduced the need to rely on night buses, taxis, or private cars on the routes covered. Not every Underground line received overnight service, and planned expansion was affected by industrial disputes and later by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Night Tube does not mean that every station or every Underground line stays open all night. It is a scheduled overnight service on selected lines, generally on Friday and Saturday nights. The launch year remains 2016.
