Rocket League introduced the Dropshot game mode in 2017.
Dropshot arrived in a March 2017 update, adding a very different objective to Rocket League. Instead of shooting the ball into a goal, teams try to damage and break the opponent’s side of the floor. Once a hole opens, the ball can fall through it to score.
The arena is built from hexagonal tiles. Each successful touch makes the ball more electrified, allowing it to damage more tiles when it finally hits the ground. This makes controlled passes, aerial strikes and deliberate placement especially important: simply hitting the ball hard is not always the best play.
Dropshot is commonly confused with Rocket League’s other extra modes. Hoops is based on basketball, Snow Day substitutes a hockey puck for the ball, and Rumble adds power-ups to conventional play. Dropshot’s March 2017 debut is also distinct from later limited-time variants, including Dropshot Rumble, which combine its floor-breaking rules with other mechanics.
