In which year did Le Corbusier die?
Answer
1965
Answer
1965
Le Corbusier died in 1965.
Born Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris in Switzerland in 1887, Le Corbusier became one of the most influential pioneers of modern architecture. He worked as an architect, urban planner, painter and writer, and adopted the professional name Le Corbusier in the 1920s.
He died of a heart attack on 27 August 1965, aged 77, after swimming in the Mediterranean near Roquebrune-Cap-Martin on the French Riviera. The circumstances are often mentioned because swimming was part of his regular routine and he had reportedly been advised not to swim alone.
His death did not end his architectural influence. Major projects associated with him, including work at Firminy and the building now known as the Pavillon Le Corbusier in Zurich, were completed or finalized after 1965. His ideas about pilotis, open plans and roof gardens continued to shape architectural education worldwide.
