C.S. Lewis died in 1963 at his home, The Kilns, near Oxford.
Lewis died on November 22, 1963, at the age of 64. The Kilns, a house on the edge of Headington Quarry, had been his home since 1930. He shared it for many years with his brother Warren Lewis and, later, with Joy Davidman and her sons.
The date of Lewis’s death coincided with two other major deaths: U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated that day, and writer Aldous Huxley also died on November 22, 1963. Because of those events, Lewis’s death received less immediate international attention than it might otherwise have done.
Lewis was buried in the churchyard of Holy Trinity Church, Headington Quarry. His grave remains a place visited by readers interested in his fiction, literary criticism, Christian writing, and the Narnia books.
