In which U.S. state did Georgia O'Keeffe spend her early childhood in Sun Prairie?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe spent her early childhood in Wisconsin, in Sun Prairie.

She was born in Sun Prairie, a city near Madison, on November 15, 1887. Her parents, Francis Calyxtus O'Keeffe and Ida Totto, operated a dairy farm, and the family later moved within the state before eventually leaving Wisconsin.

Although O'Keeffe is strongly identified with New Mexico, Wisconsin was the setting of her earliest years and first formal art training. She attended the Sacred Heart Academy in Madison before continuing her education elsewhere.

Her childhood location is sometimes obscured by the later importance of New Mexico in her visual identity. The landscapes she became famous for were southwestern deserts and mountains, but her biography began in the upper Midwest, far from Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu.
