The restored U-Drop Inn is in Shamrock, Texas.
The U-Drop Inn opened in 1936 at a junction on Route 66 and was designed by architect Joseph B. Massaglia. Its striking Art Deco form included a café, service station, and distinctive tower, making it one of the most recognizable surviving buildings along the Texas section of the highway.
As Interstate 40 replaced long-distance Route 66 traffic, the business declined. The building later underwent restoration and now serves as a visitor center and museum, helping travelers understand the commercial culture that grew around the original highway.
The site is sometimes confused with roadside attractions in Amarillo, including the Cadillac Ranch. Amarillo is a major Route 66 city farther west, while the U-Drop Inn is specifically associated with Shamrock in eastern Texas. The building also inspired fictional roadside imagery in the film Cars.
