Which river does Tulsa’s 11th Street Bridge, also called the Cyrus Avery Route 66 Memorial Bridge, cross?

The story behind the answer

Tulsa’s 11th Street Bridge, also called the Cyrus Avery Route 66 Memorial Bridge, crosses the Arkansas River.

The bridge was completed in December 1915 to carry vehicles across the river in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It later became part of U.S. Route 66 and served as an important crossing for motorists traveling through the city.

The original structure was a multi-span concrete arch bridge 1,470 feet long. A second arched bridge was added immediately downstream in 1934, and the two were connected by a single deck to create a wider roadway.

Tulsa renamed the bridge in 2004 to honor Cyrus Avery, a leading advocate for the Chicago–Los Angeles highway and a major figure in Route 66’s creation. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. It is no longer open to normal vehicle traffic, but remains an important Route 66 landmark.
