In which Tekken game did Eddy Gordo first appear?

The story behind the answer

Eddy Gordo first appeared in Tekken 3. Introduced in the 1997 game, he is a Brazilian fighter whose flowing, acrobatic attacks are based on capoeira, a martial art and cultural tradition with roots in Brazil.

Eddy's story centers on revenge for the murder of his parents and later on finding a cure for the illness affecting the grandfather of Christie Monteiro, his capoeira teacher. His distinctive movement style made him immediately memorable and helped expose many fighting-game players to capoeira's spinning kicks, handstands, evasive footwork, and rhythm-based transitions.

A frequent source of confusion is Eddy's status in later games. Although he appeared in Tekken Tag Tournament after his debut, he was omitted as a standard roster character in Tekken 4 and was represented by Christie Monteiro in the console version. He returned in Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection and became a fully separate character again in later installments. His debut, however, remains firmly tied to Tekken 3.
