In which state does "Gilmore Girls " take place?

The story behind the answer

Gilmore Girls takes place in the U.S. state of Connecticut.

The series centers on Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory, who live in the fictional small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. The town’s cozy New England atmosphere, town meetings, seasonal festivals, independent shops, and familiar community characters form much of the show’s identity. Hartford, the state capital, is also important to the story because it is associated with Lorelai’s parents, Emily and Richard Gilmore.

Gilmore Girls was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and premiered in 2000. Its seven-season run follows Rory from her years at the elite Chilton preparatory school through Yale University, while Lorelai builds a career in hospitality and eventually operates the Dragonfly Inn.

Stars Hollow is fictional, so viewers cannot locate it on a Connecticut map. The town was partly inspired by Washington Depot, Connecticut, after Sherman-Palladino visited the area. The show was filmed mainly on studio sets in California, which is a common source of confusion: the production location was California, but the story’s setting is Connecticut.
