In which Spanish town was Salvador Dalí born?
Answer
Figueres
Answer
Figueres
Salvador Dalí was born in the Spanish town of Figueres, in Catalonia.
He was born on 11 May 1904 in a house on Carrer Monturiol, in Figueres’s Empordà region near the French border. The town became a lasting part of his identity and is closely associated with his artistic legacy. Dalí spent his childhood there, attended its Municipal Drawing School, and held an early public exhibition in the town’s municipal theatre.
Figueres is not the same place as Cadaqués, although both towns mattered greatly to Dalí. Cadaqués and nearby Port Lligat were important locations for his family holidays, artistic development, and later home. His relationship with the landscapes of northeastern Catalonia strongly influenced the settings in many paintings.
Dalí eventually helped transform Figueres’s ruined theatre into the Dalí Theatre and Museum. The museum opened in 1974 and became one of the world’s most distinctive artist-designed museums. Dalí was buried there after his death, beneath the former theatre’s stage.
