The original Pokémon game adventure is set in the Kanto region.
Kanto is the setting for Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow. Players travel through towns, routes, caves, forests, and seas while challenging eight Gym Leaders and preparing for the Pokémon League.
Important locations include Pallet Town, where the player begins, Viridian City, Pewter City, Cerulean City, and Saffron City. The region also contains landmarks such as the Safari Zone, the Pokémon Mansion, and Victory Road.
Kanto is based partly on the real Kantō region of Japan, although the game’s geography is fictionalized. The name can therefore refer both to the real-world region and the Pokémon setting. Later games introduced new regions, including Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar, and Paldea. Kanto also returned in Pokémon Gold and Silver and their remakes, making it one of the franchise’s most revisited regions.
