In which Philadelphia building was the Declaration of Independence adopted, as remembered by America250?

The story behind the answer

The Declaration of Independence was adopted in Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, a site remembered by America250.

The building was completed in 1753 as the Pennsylvania State House. In 1776, the Second Continental Congress used its Assembly Room while debating independence and adopting the Declaration. The same room later hosted important discussions connected with the Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution.

The building was originally known as the Pennsylvania State House; “Independence Hall” became its better-known later name. It stands within Independence National Historical Park and is recognized as a major symbol of the founding era. The Liberty Bell was also associated with the Pennsylvania State House complex, although the bell was not the place where the Declaration was adopted.
