Georgia O'Keeffe maintained a home in Abiquiú, New Mexico.
O'Keeffe purchased and restored a house in Abiquiú in 1945, after years of visiting New Mexico. The property included a courtyard and a famous door set in an adobe wall. That door became one of her best-known recurring subjects.
The Abiquiú house gave O'Keeffe a permanent base near the landscapes that had inspired her since the 1930s. She also spent time at Ghost Ranch, farther north, but the Abiquiú property offered a more settled studio and domestic environment.
O'Keeffe lived and worked in the house for many years. It is now preserved as the Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio and is recognized as a National Historic Landmark.
Santa Fe was another important New Mexico center for O'Keeffe and later became the location of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. However, the specific village associated with her restored adobe home is Abiquiú.
