In which New Mexico village did Georgia O'Keeffe live and work at her historic home?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe lived and worked at her historic home in Abiquiu, New Mexico.

O'Keeffe acquired the adobe house in Abiquiu in 1945 and spent years restoring it. The property had been abandoned and required extensive work, but its walls, courtyard, and views became central to her daily life and art. She eventually moved into the house in 1949, after Alfred Stieglitz's death.

The home is especially recognizable for a black door set in a sunlit adobe wall. O'Keeffe painted and photographed this architectural detail repeatedly, turning an ordinary feature into a powerful abstract motif. The building also provided a direct connection to the surrounding landscape that she had been painting since her first New Mexico visits.

Abiquiu is not the same place as Ghost Ranch, though both are strongly associated with O'Keeffe. Her Ghost Ranch surroundings supplied many landscape subjects, while the Abiquiu house became her principal New Mexico residence and studio. The property is now preserved as a historic site.
