Georgia O'Keeffe’s house and studio were located in Abiquiu, New Mexico.
O'Keeffe acquired the Abiquiu property in 1945 after renting it for several years. The house had been abandoned and required extensive restoration. She worked with architect Juan Hamilton to repair and adapt the building, preserving features such as the courtyard, adobe walls, and distinctive black door.
The Abiquiu home became one of O'Keeffe’s principal residences and studios. Its architecture, garden, views, and surrounding landscape influenced her daily life and artistic practice. The property is now preserved as the Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio and is managed through the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum.
Santa Fe was also central to O'Keeffe’s later life and houses her museum, but it was not the town of the famous home and studio. Taos and Albuquerque are other New Mexico places associated with regional art, yet the property itself is in Abiquiu.
