Georgia O'Keeffe restored a historic adobe home and studio in Abiquiú, New Mexico. The property, now known as the Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio, became one of the places most closely connected with her working life.
O'Keeffe acquired the neglected house in 1945 and spent years overseeing its restoration. She moved into it in 1949, after Alfred Stieglitz's death, and used the building and surrounding landscape as important sources of ideas and imagery.
The home is often confused with Ghost Ranch, a separate New Mexico location where O'Keeffe also lived and painted. Abiquiú is the town associated with the restored adobe home; Santa Fe is the city where the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum was later established. The property is preserved as a historic site.
