Georgia O'Keeffe maintained a home in Abiquiú, New Mexico, near the landscapes that inspired much of her later work. The house is now preserved as the Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio.
O'Keeffe acquired the Abiquiú property in 1945 and renovated it over several years. The building included a famous courtyard wall and door that became subjects in her paintings. She used the house as a base while working in the surrounding high-desert environment.
Abiquiú is distinct from Santa Fe, where O'Keeffe also lived and where the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum is located. Ghost Ranch lies farther north and was another major source of inspiration. These locations are often grouped together in accounts of O'Keeffe’s New Mexico years, but Abiquiú is the town specifically associated with her restored home and studio.
