In which New Mexico town did Georgia O'Keeffe establish her permanent home in 1949?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe established her permanent New Mexico home in Abiquiú in 1949.

O'Keeffe had been visiting New Mexico since 1929 and was drawn to its distinctive light, architecture, bones, and geological forms. She acquired and restored a nineteenth-century adobe house in Abiquiú, completing the move there in 1949.

The house and studio became an important part of her working life. Its courtyard wall and doorway appear in several paintings, and the building itself helped structure her daily practice. She continued to spend time at Ghost Ranch, but Abiquiú became her permanent New Mexico base.

Abiquiú is sometimes replaced in popular accounts by Santa Fe because Santa Fe is home to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. They are different places: the museum is in Santa Fe, while O'Keeffe's historic home and studio are in Abiquiú.
