In which New Mexico location did Georgia O'Keeffe maintain a home overlooking a ranch landscape?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe maintained a home at Ghost Ranch in northern New Mexico.

Ghost Ranch is a retreat and education center near Abiquiú, surrounded by colorful cliffs and high desert terrain. O'Keeffe began visiting the area in the 1930s and found its geological formations especially compelling. The landscape supplied recurring subjects for paintings of cliffs, roads, trees, and bones.

She kept a house at Ghost Ranch and also owned a separate historic adobe home in Abiquiú. These locations were related but not interchangeable: Ghost Ranch was more remote and open, while the Abiquiú property was a walled compound within the village.

O'Keeffe's paintings of the region often isolate a small portion of the landscape, making cliffs or natural forms appear monumental. Her connection with Ghost Ranch helped establish northern New Mexico as one of the defining settings of twentieth-century American art.
