Georgia O'Keeffe's former home and studio at Abiquiú is in the New Mexico community of Abiquiú.
O'Keeffe acquired the Abiquiú property in 1945 after renting it for years and had it renovated before moving there permanently in 1949. The house became both a residence and a working studio. Its courtyard, door, walls, and surrounding landscape appear in numerous paintings.
The property is especially associated with a black door set in a pale adobe wall. O'Keeffe painted that doorway repeatedly, treating a familiar architectural detail as an abstract arrangement of shapes, shadows, and color. The home also provided a quiet setting away from New York's galleries and social demands.
The Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio is now preserved as a National Trust Historic Site. It should not be confused with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe or with O'Keeffe's nearby Ghost Ranch residence.
