In which New Mexico city did Georgia O'Keeffe live and work during her later years?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe lived and worked in Abiquiu during her later years. She moved into her Abiquiu home in 1949, after spending years traveling between New York and New Mexico.

Abiquiu is a small community in northern New Mexico, surrounded by landscapes that O'Keeffe repeatedly painted. The area’s cliffs, fields, roads, and changing light became central to her mature visual language. Her residence there also provided a stable base for working after Alfred Stieglitz’s death.

O'Keeffe is strongly associated with both Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch, but they are not interchangeable. Ghost Ranch was a landscape and retreat she visited and painted; Abiquiu was the community where her home and studio were located.

Another common mix-up is Santa Fe, a major nearby cultural center. O'Keeffe spent time in Santa Fe and her work is exhibited there, but the later home-and-studio setting most directly linked to her daily life was in Abiquiu.
