In which London church is Charles Darwin buried?

Charles Darwin is buried in Westminster Abbey. He died at Down House in Kent on 19 April 1882, aged 73, and was initially expected to receive a private burial near his home. Instead, prominent scientists and public figures petitioned for a national memorial, leading to his burial in Westminster Abbey on 26 April 1882.

Darwin's grave lies in the Scientists' Corner, near the resting place of Sir Isaac Newton. His interment there reflected the enormous scientific importance of his work on evolution by natural selection, especially after the publication of On the Origin of Species in 1859.

A common mix-up is St. Paul's Cathedral, another major London landmark associated with national memorials. Darwin's funeral, however, took place at Westminster Abbey, where many monarchs, writers, scientists, and other notable Britons are commemorated. His burial also placed him close to scientific contemporaries, including John Herschel and Charles Lyell.
