In which Jamaican village was Bob Marley born in 1945?

The story behind the answer

Bob Marley was born in Nine Mile, Jamaica, in 1945.

Nine Mile is a rural community in Saint Ann Parish, in the hills of northern Jamaica. Marley’s birthplace is now associated with the Bob Marley Mausoleum, where his remains were reinterred after his death.

Marley spent part of his childhood in the countryside before moving with his mother to Kingston. That move exposed him to the city’s developing music scene and helped lead to his musical partnership with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer.

Nine Mile is sometimes confused with Kingston because Kingston became the center of Marley’s recording career and public life. However, his birthplace was the small Saint Ann community, not Jamaica’s capital.
