The One Love Peace Concert was held in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1978.
The concert took place at the National Stadium on 22 April 1978, during a period of intense political conflict between supporters of Jamaica’s two major parties. Bob Marley headlined the event, which sought to promote peace and unity.
A famous moment came when Marley brought political leaders Michael Manley and Edward Seaga onstage and joined their hands. The gesture became one of the most remembered images in Jamaican music history, although the concert did not end the country’s political tensions.
The event is sometimes confused with Marley’s 1976 Smile Jamaica concert, also held in Kingston. Smile Jamaica was organized after a period of violence and took place two years earlier; the One Love Peace Concert was the 1978 event.
