In which Illinois village was the original DashCon held?

The original DashCon was held in Schaumburg, Illinois.

The inaugural convention took place at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel from July 11 to 13, 2014. DashCon was a fan convention built largely around Tumblr’s online communities, including fandoms such as Homestuck, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Supernatural, and Welcome to Night Vale.

Schaumburg is a suburban village in the Chicago metropolitan area, not one of the larger Illinois cities commonly offered as distractors. The event was initially announced under the name Tumbl-Con USA, but organizers later changed it to DashCon to make clear that Tumblr was not officially affiliated with the convention.

DashCon quickly became notorious online because of organizational and financial problems. A late demand for an upfront venue payment led organizers to solicit donations, while the convention’s small ball pit became an enduring internet meme after a canceled panel was replaced with compensation that included extra ball-pit time.
