In which historical uprising is Assassin’s Creed Unity set?

The story behind the answer

Assassin’s Creed Unity is set during the French Revolution.

The game begins in 1789 and follows Arno Dorian through revolutionary Paris. Its story uses major social and political upheavals of the period, including the fall of the Bastille, the abolition of feudal privileges, and the Reign of Terror.

Paris is the primary setting, and recognizable locations such as Notre-Dame, the Tuileries, and the Palace of Versailles appear in the game’s reconstruction of the era. Arno becomes involved with the Assassin Brotherhood while investigating the death of his adoptive father.

The French Revolution began as a political and social crisis in France and led to the end of the monarchy in 1792, followed by the execution of Louis XVI in 1793. Unity combines those historical events with fictional characters and the series’ secret conflict.
