Answer
Hoops
In which game mode do players use a basketball hoop? Hoops is Rocket League’s basketball-inspired game mode.
Psyonix added Hoops on April 25, 2016, expanding Rocket League beyond its usual soccer-style arenas. Instead of trying to drive the ball into a goal, players launch it toward elevated hoops and use jumps, flips, aerial control, and wall play to score. The mode retains Rocket League’s car-based physics, so positioning and aerial timing matter as much as ordinary dribbling.
Hoops is often confused with other alternative modes. Snow Day replaces the ball with a hockey puck and is played on an ice-themed field, while Rumble adds unpredictable power-ups to standard soccer gameplay. Dropshot uses a different floor-breaking scoring system rather than basketball hoops.
The game’s broader design grew from Psyonix’s decision to experiment with sports beyond soccer. Hoops became one of the clearest examples of how Rocket League’s vehicle physics could support a different sport while preserving its signature aerial gameplay.
