In which Florida city is NASCAR headquartered?

The story behind the answer

NASCAR is headquartered in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Daytona Beach is closely tied to NASCAR’s origins. The city hosted early beach-and-road-course races and attracted drivers, mechanics, and promoters who wanted to organize stock-car competition. Bill France Sr. moved there in 1935 and became one of the area’s leading race promoters.

The organization’s founding discussions took place at the Streamline Hotel in Daytona Beach in December 1947, and NASCAR was formally established there on February 21, 1948. The city later became associated with Daytona International Speedway, the 2.5-mile superspeedway that opened in 1959 and hosts the Daytona 500.

Charlotte, North Carolina, is another major NASCAR center and hosts many teams, shops, and racing operations, which can cause confusion about the headquarters location. NASCAR also maintains important facilities elsewhere, but its main headquarters remains in Daytona Beach.
