Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow take place in the fictional region of Kanto.
Kanto is the setting for the first generation of Pokémon games. Players begin their journey in Pallet Town, receive a first Pokémon from Professor Oak, travel between towns and cities, challenge Gym Leaders, and ultimately attempt to become the Pokémon League Champion.
The region contains locations such as Viridian City, Cerulean City, Lavender Town, and the Indigo Plateau. It also includes landmarks such as the Safari Zone and Pokémon Mansion. In the first-generation games, the word Kanto was not used prominently in the story; the region received its familiar name in the second generation.
Kanto is sometimes confused with Johto because Pokémon Gold and Silver let players revisit Kanto after completing the Johto adventure. Kanto also inspired the settings of later remakes, including Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
