In which English city did Jane Austen die?

Jane Austen died in Winchester, England, on 18 July 1817. She was 41 years old and had travelled there for medical treatment during her final illness.

Austen had been living at her family's home in Chawton, Hampshire, where she revised and wrote several of her major novels. As her health deteriorated in 1817, her sister Cassandra and brother Henry took her to Winchester, a larger city with medical facilities. Austen died there after several weeks of serious illness.

She was buried in Winchester Cathedral, in the north aisle of the nave. Her original epitaph praised her personal qualities and mental abilities but did not identify her as a novelist, because her literary reputation was not yet as large as it would become after her death.

Chawton is a common wrong answer because it was Austen's final home and is closely associated with her writing life. Bath is also linked to her biography: she lived there for several years. London, meanwhile, was important to her publishing and family connections, but it was not the city where she died.
