In which country is Audi's Győr manufacturing plant located?

The story behind the answer

Audi’s Győr manufacturing plant is located in Hungary.

The facility is operated by Audi Hungaria in Győr, a city in northwestern Hungary near the Austrian and Slovak borders. Audi established its Hungarian subsidiary in 1993, initially concentrating on engine and powertrain production for Audi and other Volkswagen Group brands.

Vehicle assembly followed in 1998 with the Audi TT. The site later expanded into a complete vehicle-production complex, adding major facilities such as a press shop, body shop and paint shop. It has produced models including the TT, A3 Cabriolet, Q3 and Q3 Sportback.

A common mix-up is to associate the plant with Germany because Audi is a German company. Audi’s headquarters and major factories are in Germany, but Győr is an important Hungarian production and development location. The city’s accented name is properly written Győr, though “Gyor” is often used in English text.
