Taylor Swift’s “august” peaked at number 11 on Malaysia’s singles chart.
The song also charted strongly in several other countries after Folklore’s surprise release. It reached number 13 in Australia, number 16 in Canada, and number 12 in Singapore. Those nearby international peaks can make the Malaysian result easy to misremember.
The chart performance came from the album’s immediate global attention in July 2020. Although “august” was not initially promoted as the album’s lead single, listeners streamed individual Folklore tracks heavily enough for many of them to appear on national charts.
Malaysia’s peak is separate from the song’s US results: “august” reached number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 5 on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. The recurring August listening trend developed later and is distinct from these initial chart entries.
