In which country did Georgia O'Keeffe spend most of her later artistic life?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe spent most of her later artistic life in the United States.

She was born and trained in the United States, and her career developed through American art schools, New York galleries, and western landscapes. Her best-known locations included New York, Texas, and New Mexico.

O'Keeffe made her first extended visit to New Mexico in 1929. She moved there permanently in 1949, after Alfred Stieglitz died, and continued painting the region for decades. She lived primarily in Abiquiú and later spent her final years in Santa Fe.

Her work is sometimes described through comparisons with European modernism, but she was an American artist whose career helped define modern art in the United States. Her paintings are held by museums around the world.
