In which city was the Foo Fighters formed?

The story behind the answer

The Foo Fighters were formed in Seattle, Washington. Dave Grohl began developing the project there in 1994, shortly after Nirvana ended following Kurt Cobain's death.

Before assembling a live band, Grohl recorded an album's worth of songs at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle. He performed nearly all the parts himself, using the sessions as a private way to process the end of Nirvana and continue making music without immediately stepping into a public frontman role. The recordings eventually became the Foo Fighters' 1995 debut album.

The band's Seattle origin is closely connected to Grohl's time in Nirvana, although Grohl himself was born in Warren, Ohio, and grew up largely in Virginia. Seattle was where he was living, recording, and building the next chapter of his career. The first Foo Fighters live show also took place in Seattle in February 1995.

A common confusion is Los Angeles, where later Foo Fighters recording and performance activity became important. The band is associated with several American rock centers, but its formation is conventionally credited to Seattle in 1994.
