In which city was the 1876 Centennial Exposition held, an earlier U.S. anniversary celebration?

The story behind the answer

The 1876 Centennial Exposition was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It celebrated the 100th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence and ran from May 10 to November 10, 1876.

The exposition took place mainly in Fairmount Park, making it one of the largest international exhibitions held in the United States up to that time. More than 10 million visits were recorded during the event, a remarkable figure for the nineteenth century.

Philadelphia was a symbolic choice because the Second Continental Congress met there and the Declaration of Independence was adopted in the city. The exposition displayed industrial machinery, manufactured goods, agricultural products, art, and innovations from the United States and other countries.

The event is sometimes confused with the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago or the 1939 New York World's Fair. Those were different international exhibitions held in different cities and years. Philadelphia also hosted the 1976 national Bicentennial celebrations.
