In which city was the 1787 United States Constitutional Convention held?

The story behind the answer

The 1787 United States Constitutional Convention was held in Philadelphia.

Delegates met at the Pennsylvania State House, the building now known as Independence Hall. The convention began on May 25, 1787, and continued through September 17, producing the United States Constitution.

Philadelphia was already a major political center. The Second Continental Congress had adopted the Declaration of Independence there in 1776, and the Confederation Congress had also used the city as a national meeting place.

The convention originally gathered to revise the Articles of Confederation, but delegates soon decided to create an entirely new governing framework. George Washington presided, and the final document was signed by 39 delegates representing 12 states. Rhode Island did not send delegates.
