In which city was Guru Gobind Singh born?
Answer
Patna
Answer
Patna
Guru Gobind Singh was born in Patna, in present-day Bihar, India, on 22 December 1666.
He was born while his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, was travelling through eastern India. His mother was Mata Gujri. The family stayed in Patna during Guru Tegh Bahadur’s absence, and the child spent his first years there before returning to the Punjab region.
The birth site is commemorated by Takht Sri Patna Sahib, one of Sikhism’s five takhts, or seats of authority. The shrine is also known as Takht Sri Harimandir Sahib and remains one of the most important Sikh pilgrimage centers.
A common mix-up is confusing Patna, his birthplace, with Anandpur Sahib, where he later lived and led the Sikh community, or with Paonta Sahib, where he spent part of his youth. He became the tenth Sikh Guru in 1675 and founded the Khalsa in 1699.
