In which city was Elon Musk born on June 28, 1971?

Elon Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa, on June 28, 1971.

Pretoria, also known officially as Tshwane, is one of South Africa’s three capital cities and serves as the country’s administrative capital. Musk spent part of his childhood in South Africa before moving abroad as a young adult.

Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, was a model and dietitian, while his father, Errol Musk, was an engineer and businessman. Musk later attended the University of Pretoria briefly before leaving South Africa for Canada in 1989.

People sometimes confuse Pretoria with Johannesburg because both are major cities in Gauteng province and are part of the same large urban region. They are separate cities, however, and Musk’s recorded birthplace is Pretoria.
