The world’s largest Starbucks store is located in Chicago, at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery on North Michigan Avenue. The five-story destination opened in November 2019 on the city’s Magnificent Mile.
Unlike a typical Starbucks coffeehouse, the Chicago Roastery is designed as an immersive coffee experience. Visitors can watch coffee being roasted, see beans transported through overhead pneumatic tubes, and order drinks made with Reserve coffees. The building also includes food and bakery offerings, retail areas, and spaces devoted to different stages of coffee production and preparation.
The Roastery covers approximately 35,000 square feet, making it much larger than Starbucks’ ordinary neighborhood cafés. Seattle is closely associated with Starbucks because the company began at Pike Place Market there, but Seattle’s historical importance does not make it home to the largest store. Tokyo and Shanghai also have major Reserve locations, yet the Chicago Roastery holds the size record.
