In which city is the International Trade Centre headquartered?

The story behind the answer

The International Trade Centre is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

The ITC is a joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations. It focuses on helping small businesses and developing economies participate more effectively in international trade through market intelligence, technical assistance and support for export development.

The organization was established in 1964. It was initially created under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and later became a joint WTO–United Nations institution. Its work includes trade information tools, assistance to trade-support institutions and programs aimed at improving the competitiveness of enterprises.

Geneva is also home to the WTO and many other international organizations, which can cause confusion about institutional identities. The ITC is not the WTO’s dispute-settlement body and is not a private trade association. Its headquarters location reflects its connection to the international organizations clustered in Geneva.
