In which city is the house where Anne Frank hid?

The house where Anne Frank hid was in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. It stands at Prinsengracht 263, beside Amsterdam’s historic canal district, and is now the Anne Frank House museum.

From July 1942 until August 1944, Anne Frank hid there with her parents, her sister Margot, the van Pels family, and Fritz Pfeffer. They lived in concealed rooms at the rear of the building, known as the Secret Annex, while Nazi Germany occupied the Netherlands.

The building was originally a 17th-century canal house and had been used for business purposes before Otto Frank’s company moved there. Its hidden rear extension provided a secluded place for the group, but they were eventually discovered, arrested, and deported. Otto Frank was the only member of the hiding group to survive the concentration camps.

Anne’s diary was published in Dutch in 1947. The Anne Frank House museum opened on 3 May 1960 and preserves the Secret Annex. Utrecht, The Hague, and Rotterdam are also Dutch cities, but none is the location associated with Anne Frank’s hiding place.
