In which city is the headquarters of World Athletics located?

The story behind the answer

World Athletics is headquartered in Monaco, at 6–8 Quai Antoine 1er on Port Hercules. The organization is the global governing body for athletics, overseeing track and field, road running, cross-country, race walking, mountain running and related disciplines.

The federation was founded in Stockholm in 1912, soon after the Olympic Games held there. Its headquarters later moved to London in 1946, before relocating to Monaco in 1993. The Monaco headquarters were officially inaugurated on 10 June 1994.

A common mix-up is confusing the headquarters city with major athletics venues or event locations. Monaco hosts the annual Herculis Diamond League meeting at Stade Louis II, but the headquarters are administrative offices rather than a competition stadium. World Athletics was formerly known as the International Association of Athletics Federations, or IAAF, until its rebranding in 2019.
