In which city is the French Open held?

The story behind the answer

The French Open is held in Paris, France.

The tournament takes place at Stade Roland Garros in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, near the Bois de Boulogne. It is staged each year over roughly two weeks in May and June and is one of tennis's four Grand Slam events.

The competition began in 1891 as the French Championships, although it was initially restricted mainly to French players and members of French clubs. It became an international tournament in 1925, helping establish its modern identity as a major event in the tennis calendar.

Paris is sometimes confused with the broader name Roland-Garros. Roland-Garros refers both to the tournament and, more precisely, the stadium complex where it is played. The event is also distinct from the Paris Masters, an indoor hard-court tournament held later in the year at Paris's Accor Arena.
