In which city is 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' set?

The story behind the answer

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is set in Las Vegas. The series follows forensic investigators working for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the fictional Las Vegas Crime Lab.

Las Vegas gives the show a distinctive setting: casino floors, hotels, desert roads, tourist crowds and the city’s enormous entertainment industry all became recurring parts of its cases. The location also lets the writers move between highly public crime scenes and the remote landscapes surrounding Nevada’s largest city.

A common mix-up comes from the wider CSI franchise. CSI: Miami is set in Miami, while CSI: NY is set in New York City; the original series is the Las Vegas-set show. It is therefore sometimes informally called CSI: Las Vegas, especially after the launch of the follow-up series CSI: Vegas.

The original program premiered in 2000 and ran for 15 seasons. Its central team, initially led by forensic entomologist Gil Grissom, used physical evidence to investigate murders and other crimes in and around Las Vegas.
