America’s Time Capsule is planned for burial in Philadelphia during the 2026 America250 celebration.
Philadelphia was the meeting place of the Continental Congress and the city where the Declaration of Independence was debated and adopted in 1776. Independence Hall, formerly the Pennsylvania State House, remains the city’s central connection to the founding era.
The capsule is intended to preserve a snapshot of the United States at its 250th anniversary. Plans describe a later opening on July 4, 2276, the 500th anniversary of the Declaration. Its location gives the project both practical and symbolic significance.
Philadelphia is sometimes confused with Washington, D.C., the modern capital and a major site for national commemorative events. Boston and New York City also played important roles in the American Revolution, but Philadelphia is the city specifically associated with the planned capsule burial.
